Restorative dentistry is the art and science of bringing your smile back to full health and function. Whether you have a severely decayed tooth or are missing multiple teeth, modern dentistry offers several ways to restore your smile.

The three most common solutions are Crowns, Bridges, and Implants. But how do you know which one is right for your specific needs? Here is a complete breakdown.

Dental Crowns vs Bridges

1. Dental Crowns (For Damaged Teeth)

A crown (often called a "cap") is used when you still have your natural tooth root, but the visible part of the tooth is heavily decayed, fractured, or weakened by a root canal. The custom-made ceramic or porcelain crown completely covers the damaged tooth, protecting it from further harm while looking exactly like a natural tooth.

2. Dental Bridges (For 1-3 Missing Teeth)

If you are missing a tooth entirely, a dental bridge literally "bridges the gap." A traditional bridge consists of an artificial tooth suspended between two dental crowns. The crowns are permanently cemented onto the healthy teeth on either side of the gap.

The Catch: To place a bridge, the healthy adjacent teeth must be filed down to fit the crowns.

3. Dental Implants (The Permanent Solution)

A dental implant is the gold standard for replacing missing teeth. Instead of relying on neighboring teeth for support, a titanium post is placed directly into the jawbone, acting as an artificial root. A crown is then attached to the top.

Bridges vs. Implants: Head-to-Head

Feature Dental Bridge Dental Implant
Impact on Other Teeth Requires filing down healthy adjacent teeth. Stands alone; preserves surrounding healthy teeth.
Bone Health Does not stimulate bone; bone loss occurs under the gap. Stimulates the jawbone, preventing facial sagging.
Lifespan Averages 7 to 15 years before needing replacement. Can last a lifetime (backed by our Written Warranty).
Cleaning Requires special floss threaders to clean underneath. Brush and floss normally, just like a natural tooth.

Full-Mouth Rehabilitation

If your teeth are severely worn down from grinding, acid erosion, or trauma, you may need a combination of these treatments. This is known as Full-Mouth Rehabilitation. Dr. Siva Nagendra meticulously designs a treatment plan using a mix of crowns, bridges, and implants to completely rebuild your bite alignment and facial aesthetics.
